Alvina King Scholarship
is a fellowship-trained consultant ophthalmologist specialising in medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery, with extensive local and international training. His clinical interests include complex cataract surgery and disorders of the vitreous and retina, including vitreomacular traction, vitreous haemorrhage, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and retinal detachment.
Dr Yan is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and a researcher at the Centre for Eye Research Australia, University of Melbourne. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications.
He completed his medical degree at Monash University, followed by a Master of Philosophy in Ophthalmology at the University of Melbourne, where he was awarded the RB McComas Research Scholarship. He was subsequently awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to pursue further studies in bioinformatics and a Master of Science at Stanford University.
Dr Yan undertook specialist ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH) and completed advanced subspecialty fellowships in medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery in Australia (RVEEH) and the United Kingdom.
He is committed to providing personalised, evidence-based care and takes the time to ensure patients understand their condition and treatment options in a thoughtful and supportive way.
